Core piece of the 500 kW class is the CHP unit type GG 530 which entered serial production in early 2014 and has been applied successfully since then in many objects. Equipped with an advanced MAN 12 cylinder turbo engine it reaches excellent efficiencies (over 40 % electric and 90 % in total).
Most prominent application examples of this type are the Energiebunker in Hamburg, the pilot Flex-KWK project Oberhausen-Barmingholten (article, German) which proves for over six years the feasibility of power market oriented district heating with CHP unit and electric boiler and the Tierpark Berlin in which two GG 530 units provide heat and power for roughly 200 buildings since summer 2021.
In contrast to conventional CHP units of this power class which normally are delivered in single parts and mounted on site, this compact CHP unit is delivered after a thorough testbench run as a complete unit. It can therefore be installed and commissioned on site within a few days. With the dimensions of 3,7 x 1,5 x 2,6 m (L x B x H) it is the world’s most compact cogeneration unit of the 500 kW class and can be set up in narrow heating rooms. Being equipped with a triple vibration dampening, usually no separate baseplate is necessary.
Natural gas: GG 530 reduced to 499 kWel, GG 530
Sewage gas: FG 530, FG 530e
The compact CHP units of the 500 kW class have all core characteristics of SOKRATHERM cogeneration units:
or short: Compact, efficient and reliable.
