Alanbrooke Quarter in Paderborn
1 x GG 202 with heat pumps

An especially innovative combination of CHP unit and heat pumps started operation in early 2026 to provide heat and power for the „Alanbrooke Quartier“ in Paderborn. Its name symbolizes the German-British friendship and stems from the Alanbrooke Barracks, which the British forces used until 2016. After their departure, all buildings of the 180 000 m² area except for the listed buildings were removed to create a green, affordable urban quarter right from the scratch.

Our compact CHP unit GG 202 with 205 kW electrical and up to 420 kW thermal power, a brine/water heat pump with 645 kW thermal power, an air/water heat pump (176 kWth) and a peak load boiler produce the heat and power needed by the quarter with very high efficiency.

The CHP unit is fueled by biomethane and supplies heat mainly to the HT-(high temperature) heat network for the listed buildings. The heat pumps supply the low temperature heat network for the new buildings, which will contain a total of 800 flats when fully completed.  Since the CHP unit also utilizes the condensing heat at very low temperatures to heat the brine of the brine/water heat pump, it reaches an extraordinarily high total efficiency of up to  98 % – and the heat pumps the excellent COP of 3,9 (air/water heat pump) and 4,5 (brine/water heat pump).
