The core benefit of cogeneration in general and especially of our compact CHP units is the efficiency. The engine-generator unit alone reaches an efficiency of 34-40 % in electricity – which is the same range that most operating large European power plants reach.
On top of that comes the heat utilization: Instead of discharging it like large power plants do via cooling towers, our compact CHP units make the heat co-generated with power production useable by a sophisticated system of heat exchangers. This heat is available directly on site in an 90/70 °C flow circuit (optionally up to 95/80 °C as ‚hot cooler‘) and can used for building heating, warm water generation, process heat or powering an absorption chiller in trigeneration. By using the exhaust separately, also steam generation or thermal oil heating are possible.
With the internal heat exchangers we achieve, additionally to the power production, a thermal efficiency of ca. 50-56 %, which can add up to total efficiencies of up to 92 %.
At low return flow temperatures, it is feasible to install an additional condensation heat exchanger which raises the thermal and total efficiencies even further.
