Heat storages (also called buffer or buffer storage) can improve the operation and profitability of the CHP unit by absorbing its surplus heat and ceding it when needed. This way, the CHP unit can keep running even if there is temporarily too little or no heat demand. On the other hand, it doesn’t need to start up or add the boiler right away when the heat demand has a short peak.
Moreover, the deployment of heat storages allows for a stronger focus on the electricity demand. Our superordinate control MiniManager PRO can for example perform an extended storage management which deliberately empties the heat storage before expected electricity peaks so the CHP unit can then run at full load during the peak.
