In May 2025 the Goettingen student services has re-opened the fully renovated former „Nordmensa“ as CGiN („Campus Gastronomie im Norden“) with a substantially higher capacity. Its top floor contains an energy center which has as its heartpiece the compact CHP units GG 140 and GG 202, together with a steam heat exchanger and an absorption chiller.
The energy center produces five forms of energy with best possible efficiency: Power, steam, high temperature heat, low temperature heat and cooling. All are required by the CGiN serving over 3000 meals at lunchtime and further buildings, which are connected to a „cold heat“ heating network with decentral heating pumps. An article (in German) about this complex cogeneration project has been published in the Energie & Management newspaper.
