Cogeneration units or CHP units (Combined Heat and Power Generation) use the innovative cogeneration principle to produce heat and power: Efficient, right on site and without transport losses. In contrast to large power plants, they can be turned on and off within a few seconds or regulated to partial load. This option to adjust power production within seconds grants them - besides the outstanding efficiency - an increasingly important role to balance out the fluctuations of renewable power sources.

Core piece of the CHP unit is a combustion engine which powers an alternator. The electrical power produced is used on site or fed into the public mains. The heat evoked during the combustion process is recovered in a system of heat exchangers and made accessible for heating, warm water supply or process heat.

Our compact CHP units can be customized individually. They deliver tailored solutions for most diverse buildings like swimming pools and office buildings, hospitals and schools, industrial sites and prisons or district heating and nursing homes. They also can be equipped for emergency power operation, to produce steam or heat up thermal oil or to power an absorption chiller for building climatisation.

Their compact construction keeps the ways for engine power and combustion heat short to convert them most effectively into electricity and heat. It also minimizes the space required in the building and the expenditures to bring the CHP unit in place.

After its individually customized and ISO 9001 certified production follows a thorough check on the test bench and a first servicing. We deliver the CHP units ready to operate in a sound absorbing case with integrated switchgear and can commission them very quickly. Their triple bearing ensures that no vibrations are transmitted to the building. A separate baseplate therefore is not necessary in
most cases.

Every SOKRATHERM CHP unit is delivered with an iPC control based on an industrial PC which not only controls the fully automatic operation but also automatically adjusts to the current energy demand. The systems developed by us can control several CHP units, boilers and heat storages for optimized operation.

Our newly developed, internet based remote monitoring RemoteManager makes the control of the whole CHP plant from a desktop workplace, via notebook or even by smartphone possible. A variety of interfaces secures the compatibility with other systems - right up to the integration into virtual power plants.
