A few hundred meters from the Nuremberg stadium and the grounds on which the infamous „Reichsparteitag“ events of the Nazi party had taken place, the municipal Siedlungswerk Nürnberg (SWN) has erected the deliberately multicoloured Regensburger Viertel. Circa 70 % of the heat required by the city quarter is supplied by a cogeneration scheme which is partially fueled by biomethane. Three listed buildings, former worker’s barracks of the 1930s visible in the foreground, were integrated in the quarter.
The Regensburger Viertel, which had been inaugurated with a celebration in summer 2024, has 381 flats and good connections to public transportation. It is one of the largest construction projects which the SWN has realized in its over hundred years of existence.
Several newspaper, architecture and energy press articles have been published about the project, among them Buntes Quartier hocheffizient versorgt in the stadt+werk edition 9/10 of 2025. When the article was published online, the SOKRATHERM compact CHP unit type GG 140 (picture below) had already produced 1,3 Mio. kWh electricity and over 2 Mio. kWh heat for the Regensburger Viertel.
