Gas engine compressor unit GK 140 in Oberndorf

In southern Germany’s metal-processing H&K plant the first gas engine compressor unit (GK-unit) developed by SOKRATHERM and our technology partner BOGE started operation in December 2022. At full load the unit type GK 140 generates 23.3 m³ compressed air per minute with 8 bar pressure and additionally 309 kW heat. Due to the smart utilization of every heat source its thermal efficiency of roughly 90 % is in the range of conventional boilers.

The article Druckluft-KWK für die Industrie („Compressed air cogeneration for the industry“) about the project with compressed air and heat generation (see downloads) has been published in the stadt+werk magazine. When the article was published in November 2023 this GK 140 unit had run for over 5000 operating hours and proven the reliability and efficiency of the system. In a few month another GK unit will be commissioned.
