Legal cogeneration framework in Germany improved

The amendment of the German law in cogeneration (KWK-Gesetz 2012) has come into effect in July 2012. It has included the objective to raise the cogeneration share of the nation’s electricity mix from ca. 15% in 2011 to 25% in 2020.

To reach this, the cogeneration bonus rates have been raised, incentives for the construction of district heating and buffer storages introduced and regulations simplified. The new law is valid for all CHP units installed after July 19th 2012.

A summary about CHP incentives in Germany can be downloaded in the .pdf file BHKW-Foerderung (in German).
